A pool with and island at its center is an automaton.
This automaton is powered by a water wheel that is
hidden beneath garden shrubbery. In the pool may be
found two youths blowing tritons, a long-necked bird
(often a symbol of homosexuality, a female poring water
from a jar into the pool (symbolic of her wasted sexual
opportunity), a cherub rides two spouting dolphins in
the pool, and a male figure stands upon a shell, pulled
by two water horses. We can see how the water wheel
turns both the pool and the island in the middle of the pool.
